“23 1/2 Hours” is a contemporary drama set in a small American community in the Midwest. The story follows Leigh Hodges, wife of Tom, a highly respected drama teacher who, after being convicted of an illicit sexual relationship/conduct with an underage student (the “Juliet” in the school play), returns home after serving her sentence. Leigh tries to keep the family together and protect her teenage son Nicholas, while around them the community splits between those who believe Tom's innocence and those who consider him guilty without appeal. Amid social pressures, public judgment, and intimate fractures, the play poses a painful question: what price has it taken to stick together when everything falls apart? The title alludes precisely to Leigh's condition, who clings to trust in her husband “almost” every day… but always remains that half hour of doubt capable of changing everything.
