Perhaps less known than the Basilicas of San Francesco and Santa Chiara, the Abbey of San Pietro is a Catholic place of worship in Assisi included, together with the other Franciscan sites and the city itself, in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Abbey of San Pietro of Assisi was founded by the Benedictines at the end of the 10th century in an area where an ancient Roman necropolis stood and was remodeled several times until the definitive reconstruction which dates back to the 13th century.
