Event information
Thanks to the common frequentations, Tom Arthurs and Simone Locarni's flights intertwine in February 2024. Since then they have traveled as a duo on the same route, following different trajectories and enhancing their diversity, sometimes twirling with extreme freedom and sometimes with the utmost rigor, between the sacred and the profane, between original compositions and more or less veiled references to classical music. A concert of two free, dynamic musicians who are attentive to the space and freedom of the other, like two gliders in flight.
Their first album, “Alianti”, will be released in spring 2026, produced by Mario Caccia for Abeat Records and recorded in Stefano Amerio's Artesuono studio in Udine.
Simone Locarni is one of the great promises of the new European jazz. Raised between classical studies and the world of jazz (alongside masters such as Ramberto Ciammarughi, Franco D'Andrea and Umberto Petrin), in 2018, at just 19 years old, he was a guest at the Italian Jazz Days in New York. Since 2016 he has performed at the main national and international jazz festivals and has released three records as a leader. In 2022 he won the Spoleto Europe Jazz Award as Best European Jazz Talent, he also received a Special Mention of Tomorrow's Jazz, the award dedicated to young talents of Italian jazz promoted by Veneto Jazz and the Ministry of Culture, "for the compositional approach and improvisational". In 2024 he won the XXI edition of the "Chicco Bettinardi" national competition in Piacenza for young Italian Jazz talents in the soloist category, also winning the Audience Award. In March he won the 14th European Young Artists' Jazz Award organized by the Internationale Jazzwoche Burghausen, the first winner as a solo musician in the history of the award.
Tom Arthurs, born in 1980 in Northamptonshire, England, is an international trumpeter, flugelhorn player and composer, active in Europe and beyond. He recorded for the ECM label with Julia Hülsmann and Theo Bleckmann among others, cementing a recording presence that combines jazz, improvisation and contemporary music. Lecturer and academic director at the Bern University of the Arts (Switzerland), he combines international concert activity with cutting-edge research and teaching projects in the field of improvised music.
