This year pianist Angela Hewitt
celebrates 50 years of performing Bach’s monumental Goldberg Variations. Her
first performance of it took place in her home town of Ottawa, Canada on March
16, 1975. It will be a unique experience to hear this monumental work performed
by one of the major Bach interpreters of our time in the awe-inspiring setting
of Perugia’s Basilica of San Pietro, The concert will be performed in the nave
with the audience in a semi-circle, to enhance the intimacy.

The Benedictine complex of San Pietro, founded in 966 by Abbot Pietro, stands where already in the 6th century. it was the ancient Cathedral, in a sacred Etruscan-Roman area. From the 10th century the basilica structure with three naves remained. The complex, owned by the Foundation for Agricultural Education, is made up of 3 cloisters that lead to the botanical garden and the medieval garden, the Art Treasures Gallery, the library and the archive, where books, codes and ancient manuscripts.
