What would the tragic, comic, and mythological heroines who form the foundation of Western culture say if they were called on stage for a stand-up comedy monologue? And how do the stories of Antigone, Electra, Medea, and the others intertwine with contemporary times? How do they archetypically influence the choices of women and men of our time? Chiara Becchimanzi attempts to offer a highly personal (and certainly inadequate) answer to these questions, blending her own tragicomic experiences with those outlined by Hellenic poets—who, coincidentally, are all men. And if those heroines had been described by women, would we have inherited the same stories or not? A comic game in which actor-led theater, stand-up comedy, and narrative theater merge to trace unexpected and possible correspondences between eras, perceptions, syndromes, Hellenizing complexes, and the history of psychoanalysis. BIO: Born in Rome, Neapolitan by blood, Ostia native by choice, and Aeolian at heart, I've been prattling on stage since adolescence, and inventing stories for as long as I can remember. I'm an actress, author, director, stand-up comedienne, novelist, activist, cultural planner, and so on: in a world that seeks to divide us into niches, narrowed by interests and skills, I strongly advocate the right to complexity and to be many things all at once, eschewing categorizations, especially if they seem like labels.
