Forever Dylan

An immersive show that traces the first twenty years of Bob Dylan’s career—from the 1960s to the very early 1980s—a period when the songs of the man who would go on to win the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature reached their absolute peak. This is the concept behind the “Forever Dylan Band,” a group featuring Francesco Ragni (vocals), Gianluca Meloni (drums and percussion), Stefano Trabalza (guitar), Marco Matteucci (bass), Claudio Scarabottini (keyboards), and Giulio Fortunato (narrator), which is bringing this tribute to the American singer-songwriter to theaters across Italy.

The project is a true journey through time—spanning roughly two decades—featuring some of Dylan’s greatest songs, from “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “Mr. Tambourine Man” to “Like a Rolling Stone” and “Hurricane.” But it offers more than just music: the songs, performed with arrangements faithful to the originals, are interwoven with spoken-word segments, as a narrator recounts the origins and backstories of some of the most significant tracks by the “minstrel from Minnesota.” Furthermore, the lyrics are projected in Italian during the performances, heightening the impact of Dylan’s words. It is an opportunity to appreciate the poet who changed the history of rock—or to discover him for the first time—and to grasp his enduring modernity, especially in a historical moment as complex and precarious as our own.
