The complexities of the relationship between humanity and artificial intelligence undoubtedly constitute one of the most significant themes of our time. Philosophers, anthropologists, sociologists, and legal experts have long grappled with defining its nature and its moral and material implications, yet have reached few convincing conclusions. *L'Algoritmo* (The Algorithm) aims to offer a modest contribution to this discourse by telling a story about ordinary people—the kind one might encounter in everyday life. The play’s protagonists serve as the vantage points from which the clash between human sensibility and artificial intelligence unfolds—a journey marked by certainties, contradictions, doubts, discoveries, and conflicts, all played out through a kaleidoscope of actions and reactions shaped by each character's unique personality and generational background. Each character navigates life by clinging to moral touchstones that do not always prove as solid as hoped, leading them to attempt to rescue one another—efforts that do not always meet with success. At a pivotal moment, the youngest character introduces an element largely unknown to the others: "the intelligent algorithm," presented as the ideal solution to every problem. Grandfather and grandson—each embodying his own generational culture and championing views diametrically opposed to the other’s—engage in a seemingly irreconcilable dispute that, surprisingly, takes a turn toward a delightfully romantic outcome.
