Nancy Brilli

With the entry into force of the Italian racial laws in 1938, the practice of transferring their assets to trusted proxies to protect them from possible expropriations, and then returning them to possession at better times, became widespread among Jews. For this reason, after the sweep of the Ghetto in October 1943, Marcello and Immacolata Consalvi find themselves rich from one day to the next, owners of four apartments and two shops of their master, captured and deported to Germany. The end of the war coincides with the beginning of the waiting. Days, weeks, then years pass by, but there is no trace of the Master. The action takes place in 1956: it snows in Rome and the hesitations of Marcello, a dependent lygian who had never doubted the return of the Jew, begin to melt slowly under the certainties of Immaculate, sure that the Master is already dead far from Italy. Just as their new social and economic status is consolidated, after thirteen years, the Master knocks on the door to claim his properties. Immaculate, however, does not want to give up the life that, in time, she has become accustomed to. She therefore convinces her husband to barricade himself in the house, even denying him friends and acquaintances. On the verge of a nervous breakdown, after days spent as prisoners, the woman decides that the only way to end the nightmare is to eliminate the Jew. From that moment on, there are twists and turns until the end of the comedy with an event as unpredictable as unexpected.
