The Bald Singer is Luciano Chailly's last play, composed in 1982 with a libretto by the same author inspired by Eugène Ionesco's famous “anti-comedy” play, considered the manifesto of the theatre of the absurd. The fruit of a long creative reflection and approved by the playwright himself, the work translates into music the surreal and paradoxical dialogue between the two leading couples. The seemingly meaningless logic of everyday conversations corresponds to a tight and brilliant musical writing, capable of conveying with irony and precision the pressing and destabilizing rhythm of the theatrical original.
