Event information

Imagination, a thrill of excitement, and desire, but also anxiety, sadness, and melancholy. Baudelaire is a man driven by contradiction, inhabited by a double nature, a soul split in two: a solitary figure who loves the crowd, an aristocrat who loves the common people, a misogynist who loves women, a misanthrope who loves Parisian parties, a scholar of antiquity who loves fashion, an elegant man drowning in debt, a Catholic and a pagan, a believer and a non-believer, a revolutionary in 1848 and a conservative for the rest of his life. A living oxymoron. A dramatic oxymoron in which opposites not only coexist but battle one another, wounding each other and waging a bloody war.

Milo De Angelis is an Italian poet, writer, translator, and literary critic. He is considered one of the most important contemporary Italian poets. He made his debut in 1982 with the collection *Somiglianze* (Resemblances), which immediately drew critical acclaim for the expressive power and metaphysical tension of his verse. Since then, he has published numerous poetry collections, including *Millimetri*, *Terra del viso*, *Biografia sommaria*, *Tema dell'addio*, and *Incontri e agguati*. His poetry is characterized by dense, powerful language capable of combining precision of detail with an openness to the absolute. He taught for many years in high schools and at the Opera prison—an experience that profoundly shaped his literary sensibility. He is a translator from French and Ancient Greek, with versions of Lucretius and the Greek tragedians to his credit. She has received numerous awards, including the Viareggio Prize in 2005 and the Mondello Prize in 2006. Her work has been translated into several languages and is the subject of academic study worldwide.

Viviana Nicodemo graduated from the Paolo Grassi Civic School of Theatre in Milan, completing the acting program. She has performed various poetry readings featuring works by Lucretius, Dickinson, Campana, Celan, Bachmann, and others. In 2007, she published the photography book *Necessità dell’anatomia* (Spirali). She has created several poetry-related videos, including *Un nome della via* (included with *Colloqui sulla poesia*, La Vita Felice). Her photography exhibition *Via dell’inizio* was held in 2009 at the Palazzo Ducale in Pavullo nel Frignano. In 2017, she exhibited a selection of photographs centered on the theme of the "cry" in Mantua (Casa del Rigoletto). That same year, she released a film about the poet Milo De Angelis titled *Sulla punta di una matita* (published by Mimesis), which accompanied the interview collection *La parola data*.
