Piazza del Popolo - Todi (PG)

Defined by the historian Gregorovius as one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Italy, it has represented the noble city center since Roman times. Its foundations rest on a series of large multi-room cisterns, still well preserved and open to visitors, which, in addition to constituting an enormous water reserve, had multiple functions: substructure, drainage and containment of water, which have always created stability problems for the hill. The cisterns, consisting of twelve rooms on the side accessible to the public, are of considerable size: 80 meters long, 8 wide and 8 high.

Around Piazza del Popolo stand the most notable monuments of Todi, true testimony to the era of the free municipalities.
