A man promises his dying wife that he will not remarry, but he will not be able to keep his promise. From this betrayed oath begins the story of A Broken Promise, a chamber work by Federico Gardella inspired by the story of the same name taken from the collection Japanese Shadows by Lafcadio Hearn (Adelphi, 2018). The story culminates in the terrible revenge of the ghost of the first wife. Who will punish?
