The Ducal Palace of Urbino, built in the 15th century by order of Federico da Montefeltro, is a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance architecture. It is an imposing building, designed by Luciano Laurana and others, which today houses the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche. The palace is characterized by a courtyard of honor, a monumental staircase, Federico's Studiolo and numerous richly decorated rooms.
