Event information

Toshio Hosokawa is one of the world's leading composers. By engaging with the Japanese musical tradition, through the study of the court repertoire (gagaku) and the sh (mouth organ), he has developed an original language in which Western influences cannot be separated from Japanese peculiarities. The central element is sound itself, with its characteristics of color, pitch, and gesture. For this occasion, Opificio Sonoro has prepared a journey to the Far East to introduce us to Japanese culture and tradition.

Opificio Sonoro is a musical collective founded in Perugia in 2019 by Marco Momi, Claudia Giottoli, and Filippo Farinelli, with the aim of defining new forms of engagement with contemporary thought through sound: from concerts to sound installations, from chamber music to recording and production techniques, from creative programming to new violin making.

At the heart of the collective is an ensemble of 13 musicians, dedicated to contemporary classical repertoire and musical creation. They have collaborated with internationally renowned composers such as Salvatore Sciarrino, Franck Bedrossian, Mauro Lanza, Francesco Filidei, Paolo Perezzani, and Andrea Agostini. A key group for the Orizzonti Festival (2020-2025), Opificio Sonoro has performed at festivals and musical institutions including Milano Musica, ArteScienza, the Nuova Consonanza Festival, the Contrasti Festival, Spazio Musica, Musica del XXI Secolo, Trame Sonore, the Festival Contemporáneo (ES), and the Italian Cultural Institute in Lima (PE). They were ensemble-in-residence at the Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte di Montepulciano 2024-2025.

Opificio Sonoro was awarded in 2021 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the video production Musica Picta, dedicated to contemporary Italian music, and in 2022 at the PerSo Film Festival for the documentary Promenade Sciarrino (Dromo Studio), broadcast on Rai5.

In 2022, the collaboration with Salvatore Sciarrino led to the release of the monographic album Sciarrino Chamber Music on Brillant Classics.
