#LeftHand celebrates the virtuosity and creativity of piano literature for the left hand alone, born primarily from the needs of pianists injured, such as Paul Wittgenstein during the First World War, who commissioned compositions from great masters such as Maurice Ravel, Erich Korngold, Sergei Prokofiev, and Benjamin Britten to continue their careers. The determination not to give up in the face of serious injury led to the creation of a new and complex repertoire, transforming adversity into an opportunity for musical rebirth. From the pages of Bach, transcribed for one hand, to the romantic charm of Saint-Saëns and Zichy, the lyrical intensity of Scriabin: each piece in this program explores surprising expressive possibilities.
